Privacy Notice

Last updated: 18 August 2026

This notice explains, in plain language, how the Works of Love website handles personal information. The website is a small, non-commercial publishing project based in Galashiels, Scotland.

Who is responsible

The data controller is P Maitland, owner and editor of the Works of Love website, based in Selkirkshire, Scotland. Privacy enquiries and requests can be sent to patricksmc107@gmail.com.

Information that may be handled

  • Ordinary technical information, such as an IP address, browser and device type, referring page, requested page, and date and time. WordPress.com may process this information to deliver and secure the website.
  • Cookie choices, so that the website can remember whether optional cookies were accepted or rejected.
  • Information you choose to send through the privacy form, such as your name, email address and message.

The website does not sell personal information and does not use it for advertising, profiling or automated decision-making.

Why information is used and the lawful basis

  • To provide, maintain and protect the website. The lawful basis is the controller’s legitimate interests in publishing the edition safely and reliably.
  • To answer a privacy enquiry or exercise a data-protection right. The lawful bases are legitimate interests and, where applicable, compliance with a legal obligation.
  • To use optional cookies or similar technologies, if any are enabled. The lawful basis is consent. Refusing optional cookies does not prevent access to the translation.

Hosting, recipients and international transfers

The site is hosted by WordPress.com, a service of Automattic. Automattic and its service providers may process technical information on the site owner’s behalf and for WordPress.com’s own stated purposes. Some processing may take place outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, the relevant provider is responsible for putting those safeguards in place. See Automattic’s Privacy Notice and Cookie Policy.

Personal information may also be disclosed where this is required by law or is necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights. It is not otherwise shared for unrelated purposes.

How long information is kept

  • Privacy correspondence is normally kept for up to 24 months after the matter is closed, unless it is needed for longer to meet a legal obligation or deal with a continuing issue.
  • Consent choices are kept only for the period stated in the cookie settings and can be changed at any time.
  • WordPress.com controls the retention of its security and server records under its own documented practices.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to access, correct or erase personal information; restrict or object to its use; and receive information you supplied in a portable form. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.

To exercise a right, email patricksmc107@gmail.com. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. It is helpful, though not compulsory, to contact the website first so that the matter can be considered promptly.

Cookies

Strictly necessary cookies may be used to deliver the site, maintain security and remember privacy choices. Optional cookies are blocked until a visitor makes a choice. The cookie notice explains the categories in use and provides equally clear options to accept or reject optional cookies. Preferences can be reopened and changed later.

Changes to this notice

This notice will be reviewed when the website’s features or data practices change. The date at the top identifies the current version.
